Apartments, Units and Townhouses Security

New buildings should plan to add electronic security and cables before construction begins.

A typical locking system for external entry or foyer doors can be controlled by

1. Pressing a button on an intercom inside the Unit

2. RFID Card or Fob.  The RFID Reader is an electronic device that reads an electronic code to open the door.

3. Opened with a Key. Registered keys can be added for greater security and key control.

The front road gate of townhouses or units can be controlled by using different entry systems.  Depending on your needs the most common controls are

1. RFID Card or Fob.  The card reader is placed where the driver can access it from the car.

2. Keypad. A code is entered to open the gate.

3. A key switch.  Turning a key in a switch lock opens the gate.  The lock would be located so the driver can access it from the car.

4. A remote opener. 

5. Pressing a button on an intercom inside the Unit.

Commercial Security and Access Control

Commercial security is commonly called Access Control.  As the name suggests the main aim is to control who has access to where.  This can be as simple as locking a storeroom or a front door to controlling access to a large factory, shopping centre or other commercial building.

There are 3 common ways to secure a commercial door. They are either with an Electronic Lock, Electric Strike or Magnetic Lock.  The best type of electronic locking system depends on your type of door, the security level you require and the frequency of use.

Typically commercial doors can be controlled with an RFID tag.  But there are many other types of control methods available. 

Time Control. Only allow access to certain doors at certain times. eg. no access outside of working hours.

biometric control.  Fingerprint readers etc.

Remote Opener - for a boom gate etc.

Keypad with a code.

Intercom.
